My Story
Home Is Where the Art Is
My name is Walter Fletcher. I grew up in a small home on 15 acres of land, surrounded by cypress swamp in the beautiful Southwest Florida town of LaBelle. My professional journey as a commercial real estate appraiser has taken me to many places, most notably the Fort Lauderdale area, where I currently reside. Through it all, my memories of growing up among the cypress, palm, oak, pine and citrus trees of Labelle continue to be my foundation.
Six years ago, I began collecting Florida paintings. From notable works by The Florida Highwaymen, a group of Black artists who emerged from the 1950s, to other painters of any era, my collection is always growing.
To be honest, living and working in the concrete jungle of a big city has its perks, but I miss my roots—I miss home.
Florida landscape art reminds me of where I come from—a place I wish to preserve for others to learn about and remember as well. By celebrating Florida art, I am able to educate and also preserve the memory for generations to come.
My interest is in the warm memories these great works preserve for anyone who has felt the change in the evening breeze coming across the water and through the leaves in late spring, for those who know the warm embrace when the sun clears the treetops at the break of day, and the chorus of cicadas rising and falling through a summer afternoon. Florida art reminds me of my own history, of our shared roots, and the warm memories and feelings we all wish to keep forever. Home truly is where the heart is.
If you are interested in selling work by any of the artists named above, or if you know of anyone in possession of quality Florida art, including landscape art which may feature natural landscapes, wildlife, shacks, cottages, or other traditional native Florida details, please give me a call. All purchases will be made in cash.
